Queen Elizabeth II has a major choice lying ahead of her, who will she choose to inherit the English throne? Which successor will take control of England?

Queen Elizabeth II is 94-years-old and still reigning. However, she soon will have to release her power. She must do this in order for the next generation to have a monarch.

Her options for successor include her heir apparent; her eldest son, Charles, Prince of Wales. Next in line after him is Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, her first grandchild.

She has been reigning for 68 years to date. She first assumed the throne when she was 25 years old on June 2, 1953. She is the longest reigning monarch in British history. She has not released her throne yet since she has been such a strong leader for England.

After trying for 22 years, BBC News finally got to sit down with Queen Elizabeth and talk about her coronation. Alastair Bruce, was the lucky man to interview her.

The Queen touched her crown for the first time since her coronation in this interview. The crown is a very big deal for the British throne. Queen Elizabeth II’s father wore that crown, so did she and soon her successor will wear it.

After talking with the Queen about her coronation. Bruce said, “She may have seen it, but she hasn’t touched it since. It was very moving to see her lean forward to check the weight of it.”

Her son, Prince of Wales is the more experienced option. He has been around the royal throne much longer than her grandson.

As detailed in a BBC News article, “As heir to the throne, his main duties are to support the Queen in her royal commitments.”

The Prince of Wales has been supporting the Queen in every aspect growing up, so he is the most experienced candidate. However, he is getting old. He will be turning 72 in this November.

The second option for the throne, is Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. A younger option for successor. If Prince William would be selected for the crown. He would have a longer impact, due to younger age. Prince William just turned 38-years-old.

Prince William left his job as a pilot in order to take on more royal duties to help Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh.

As stated in a BBC article, “He left the role in July 2017 to take on more royal duties on behalf of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.”

As time continues, Queen Elizabeth will have to make her decision. Will the heir with more experience take the throne, or will the younger, possibly more impactful heir assume the throne?
