Girls Basketball Recap

The Girl’s varsity basketball team (24-3) is continuing its run in the PIAA state tournament. After falling in the District III final to Cedar Cliff (25-0) by a score of 47-37, the Panthers knocked out Souderton, the 7th seed out of District 1 by a score of 50-48. It wasn’t until the first overtime that Central had taken the lead.
“I’m still in shock,” senior Bella Chimienti said. “I mean, I don’t have words for it right now.”
Central then took on Easton (28-1), the 1 seed from District 11 by a score of 64-46. Central’s fill-in head coach Sean Potts made an early adjustment to up the tempo, which proved to be too much for the opponent to keep up with. Unfortunately, the next challenge against Cardinal O’ Hara, the 1 seed out of District 12, was too much. Central fel by a score ofl 61-49.
“It’s hard to see it end,” Sean Potts, the acting head coach, said. “Working with these guys every day and then the fact that’s there’s no practice tomorrow is the killer to me. What do you do?”
In addition to the teams’ success, individual players have also received accolades. Senior Mackenzie Wright-Rawls was co-player of the year in Division 1. Another senior, Bella Chimienti also received First-Team honors in the county. Junior Emily Crouthamel was awarded second team all county recognition.
Head Coach Scott Wisner notched his 400th career varsity win and senior Chimienti scored her 1,000th point this season as well.
