Former veteran Tulsi Gabbard running for 2020 presidential election

Tulsi Gabbard is one of the 15 candidates running for president in the 2020 elections. Gabbard is a 38-year-old democrat from Samoa, Hawaii who has served in the U.S National Guard and served two tours in the Middle East.

Gabbard is the first female combat veteran to run for the presidency and the one of the first female combat veteran to be elected in congress, along with Tammy Duckworth. Gabbard graduated from The Accelerated Officer Candidate school at Alabama Military Academy, she was the first woman in 50 years to get distinguished honor roll.

Ever since Gabbard was a teenager, she has been helping her community in Hawaii. Now she even has a website that helps with emergencies, internships, military resources and fundraising  for people who want to visit Washington D.C.

After the 9/11 attacks, she wanted to help the country, so she enlisted in the army. She fought in Iraq and there should be a purpose for war.

I served in a war in Iraq — a war that was launched based on lies, and a war that was launched without evidence.”said Gabbard.

Gabbard was in the Army for 16 years before she joined Congress. While in Congress she is fighting for peace. She worked as a legislative aid to Senator Danny Alkaka during her time. While working with Alkaka, Gabbard  also worked to help the american people by securing our country and promoting peace. Much like her campaign which promotes protecting our environment, investing green energy economy, clean water and air, healthcare for all, investing in infrastructure, and civil liberties.

“It is unacceptable that we pay far more for health care than any other country in the world, yet we have far worse outcomes. Medicare-for-all would lower that cost of health care by taking out bloated administrative fees and the heavy profits that insurance companies make on the backs of sick people. Medicare-for-all is not going to solve everything. We have to address the high cost of prescription drugs. Right now, Medicare can’t negotiate with prescription drug companies.” Gabbard stated

However, during her time in, she received backlash for signing against the Marriage Act. The Marriage Act is a law that has been passed for same sex marriage and protecting it. She has since apologized for signing in defense in 2013. Currently shes working to protect the LGBTQ community and equal rights. She has also had political problems with Hillary Clinton. Now that Gabbard is running for president, Clinton claims Russians are grooming Gabbard.

“Yet despite the damage you’ve done to our country and the world, you want to continue your failed policies directly or indirectly through the Democratic nominee”  Gabbard said after being told the claims said by Cliton.
