Yesterday, September 29, 2020, the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup finals for the second time ever. They faced off against the Dallas Stars and won the series 4-2.

In the sixth game of the series, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars 2-0. In the first period, the Stars were faced with the first penalty of the game. Lightning player Brayden Point scored on this powerplay with seven minutes left in the first period. Point fired it from afar and rebounded his shot, after it was deflected, finishing the goal with the goalie left clueless.

The second goal didn’t come long after that. Blake Coleman had the second and final goal of the game. He scored in the beginning of the second period after the Stars lost the puck. The Stars were left flustered as they raced back to face the 2v3. A pass was made through the defense, and Coleman was able to place his shot perfectly to the left of the Dallas goalie Anton Khudobin.

Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy ended the shut-out with 22 saves, and Khudobin ended with 27 saves for the Stars.

Vasilevskiy played every minute in net and set a post-season record for minutes played. The previous record was set by Miikka Kiprusoff who played for the Calgary Flames.

Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP (most valuable player) of the playoffs. He scored 10 postseason goals.

“We knew what we were capable of, with our whole roster and we were just pretty thankful to get the opportunity to come back and play,” Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh said. “Right from Day 1 there, we were focused and dialed in, and now we can say mission accomplished which is a pretty incredible feeling.”

In game one the Stars destroyed the Lightning in game one, ending with the final score 4-1. After a tied, 1-1, first half the Stars managed to score three more goals to secure their victory.

Game three was a very important game for both teams. This game would end the tie, giving the winning team a slight advantage over the other. The Lightning scored two goals in the first period, with Dallas trailing with only one. Tampa then scored three more goals in the second period, shutting out Dallas who only managed to score one more goal in the third. The game ended 5-2 with the Lightning leading the series.

Game four was won by the Lightning, giving them a 3-1 lead in the finals. Dallas scored two goals in the first period, one in the second and one in the third period. The lightning scored three in the second period, one in the third period and the game-winning goal in overtime.

For the Stars, their chance for victory was slowly slipping away. The Lightning needed one more win to get the Stanley cup, but the Stars didn’t give up. In game five the Stars won their game in double overtime 3-2.

As for game six, the rest is history.
