“Tonight, I actually felt like I was sitting on top of the arena when that shot went in,” said James.

Lebron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s previous scoring record of 38,387 points Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023. James went into the night needing 36 points and ended up scoring 38 in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Late in the third, James made a fadeaway jump shot to officially pass Abdul-Jabbar. Immediately after, the game was put on pause as photographers and family members swarmed James. NBA commissioner Adam Silver as well as Abdul-Jabbar also met up with James to share some words on his accomplishment.

“I would never, ever in a million years have dreamed this any better than it is tonight,” exclaimed James.
